Tibet Tour and Package
Tibet has been a mysterious and timeless land, cut off from the rest of the world by the mighty Himalayas. Despite modernisation it has retained the beauties of its past, such as the fascinating Gompas, ancient markets, ever-smiling and fun-loving Tibetans and its amazing turquoise lakes.
In Tsethang and Yarlung, the cradle of Tibetan civilisation, you will visit ancient Tibetan monasteries and the tomb of the famous Tibetan king, Songsten Gampo. This area is extremely rich in cultural interest. It is also the home of the world's largest canyon, on the Yarlung Tsang Po River, which later becomes the Brahmaputra, flowing through India and Bangladesh.
Lhasa, the heart and soul of Tibet and an object of devout pilgrimage, is still a city of wonders. The Potala, a vast white and ochre fortress, dominates the Lhasa skyline. Once the seat of Tibetan government and the location of the tombs of previous Dalai Lamas, the Potala serves as a symbolic focus for Tibetan aspirations. Today though, it is the Jokhang temple, 2km to the east, which is the spiritual heart of the city. The medieval push and shove of crowds, the street performers, the stalls hawking everything from prayer flags to jewel-encrusted yak skulls, and the devout tapping their foreheads to the ground at every step is an exotic brew that few newcomers can resist.
We stay in the best traditional Tibetan hotel in Lhasa which is located in the centre of the city, close to the major attractions. With so much to see and explore in Lhasa, this will truly be an unforgettable experience.
